John Terry has voiced his support for a banner paying tribute to the outgoing Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich.
Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale shortly before he was sanctioned for his alleged links to Russian president Vladimir Putin following the invasion of Ukraine.
There are currently three bidders in the running to buy Chelsea for about £2 billion.
On Friday, the CFCUK Fanzine tweeted that it was raising £3200 to purchase a large banner to “thank Mr Abramovich for all he has done for Chelsea”.
Terry, who played for Chelsea between 1995 and 2017 and currently works at the club in a coaching consultancy role, replied: “I’m in. The best owner.”
The Premier League club is currently operating under a special licence from the UK government which ends on May 31.
The licence was issued in March when Abramovich was sanctioned.
On Thursday The Athletic reported that Abramovich asked the three groups bidding to buy the Premier League club to put £500 million more into a foundation he wants to set up for victims of the war in Ukraine.
The request was made by associates of the Russian billionaire during face-to-face meetings with the three groups in London, where they gathered to make their final pitches for the reigning European and world champions this week.
However, while the request came only days before a final decision on who the preferred bidder was expected and did surprise the club’s prospective new owners, the money is not additional in terms of the overall number they are being asked to commit.
The Athletic understands Abramovich wants the groups to make more money available to his foundation, as opposed to putting it into the club.
