As Palm Bay's football program reveals its 2022 team on Friday against rival Bayside, it will also celebrate its history.

Three prominent figures for the Brevard County school will be inducted into a new hall of fame for coaches, with banners hung outside at the stadium entrance and inside facing the field. Members of the two state championship teams will also be recognized.

Friday will open regular-season high school football in Brevard, the first of 11 weekends.

Palm Bay's first athletic director, Charlie Schack; its first football coach, Artie Ulmer; and two-time state championship coach Dan Burke will become the first members of the coaching hall of fame, initiated by principal Jud Kaminski and athletic director Brian Crowley.

"In general, we just want to build pride in the program," Crowley said Wednesday. "We felt this was a great way to do it."

The stadium has been getting a new look, including some fresh paint, and players from the football past will get a first glance with a tailgate party in the south end zone beginning at 4:30 p.m. The state championship teams of 2000 and 2002 will be recognized in a halftime ceremony.

Tickets for the game cost $6.

The Pirates will host the rival Bears with both looking to build on last season, and each won its preseason game a week ago.

They'll start 2022 in a new-look FHSAA. Teams have been divided into metro and suburban classifications. Brevard teams play in suburban classes, designated by "S" in the class name.

Eight Brevard teams will be home for Week 1, including Cocoa, ranked No. 1 in Class 2S by the USA Today Florida Network, hosting Class 3M No. 5 Orlando Jones. Rockledge, third in 3S, will host Gulliver Prep, fifth in 5M.
